The Temper Trap: Sweet Disposition

The Temper Trap is a newish band from Australia with an old New Wave sound. Their single, Sweet Disposition, is gaining airplay after being featured in the film 500 Days of Summer. The song's pulsating rhythm and jangly guitar recall some of the best 1980s bands including early U2 and The Sound UK.

Lead vocalist Dougie Mandagi's pure, haunting and yet joyous falsetto is reminiscent of Jimmy Somerville of the Bronski Beat and Communards, Jeff Buckley and Brian Wilson. The kid can dance, too, as though his spirit can't not dance. I know that feeling of being possessed by the music and his irrepressible moves look strangely familiar.

What's not to love?

sweet disposition
never too soon
oh, reckless abandon
like no one's watching you
a moment
a love
a dream
aloud
a kiss
a cry
our rights
our wrongs
a moment a love
a dream
aloud
a moment a love
a dream
aloud

so stay there
cause i'll be coming over
and while our blood's still young
it's so young, it runs
and won't stop til it's over
won't stop to surrender

songs of desperation
i played them for you
a moment
a love
a dream
aloud
a kiss
a cry
our rights
our wrongs
a moment a love
a dream
aloud
a moment a love
a dream
aloud

so stay there
cause i'll be coming over
and while our blood's still young
it's so young, it runs
and won't stop til it's over
won't stop to surrender
