Jason Castro: Show Us the Mojo and We'll Show You the Money!

As I write this on Tuesday, May 6th, rumors indicate that Jason Castro will be performing “I Shot the Sheriff” and “Mr. Tambourine Man” tonight. Since these spoilers were first posted on Monday, a wave of negativity swept across the internet before Jason has sung a single note.

Sound familiar? It’s PaulaGate 2008 all over again!

How do you think this makes Jason feel? After realizing the judges are sharpening their long knives no matter how well you perform, just imagine how disheartening it must be to discover that your fans have so little faith in you.

If you have watched the You Tube videos of Jason performing "Santeria"and "Bad Fish," you already know Jason has a mojo for reggae and ska. When Jason threw himself into the cheesy Neil Diamond group medley on results night last week, many of us shouted, “Yes! Where has that Jason Castro been hiding? Give us more, please.”

We already know that Jason has such a heart for music that he can hardly contain it. He cannot help but sing along even when it’s not his turn or his solo, regardless how uncool he looks or how craptastic the song may be. We are hungry to experience that sense of abandon and surrender again. We want America to see the Jason Castro whose rendition of "Crazy" was so powerful and passionate that even cynical Simon Cowell became a convert.

Who cares what the judges and some critics will say? I mean, really! They don’t vote. We do. I even bought a “free” Go Phone from Best Buy yesterday.

If Jason brings the mojo tonight, he will deserve the top 3 and beyond. He will deserve fans – and record labels – that bring the money.

Are you with me?

I'll admit, I was skeptical when I heard the song choice rumors; however, you have completely got me back on track. I have utter faith in Jason and am sure he will do great! He's so talented and knows what he's doing!! :)

Jason is going to be fantastic. I'm sure he knows these songs and will kick ass on them

Let's just trust his instincts and stop questioning him. Whatever he wants to sing is what I want to listen to.

I would listen to Jason sing the phone book. . . He continuously makes me a believer--in him, in the goodness of people, in the ability of music to translate a message to each of us. There isn't room for negativity. Believe, People. We need to believe. I'm a Clevelander, home of Underdogs and Believers. Trust me when I say that faith is a strong force. Jason will bring it; we need to bring it as well.

Castro the vote!!

Thanks for that!!! I agree 100%... this is also a chance for Jason to show us his stuff by arranging songs that might be thought as "unsuitable." I think he performs best under high pressure-- look at I Don't Wanna Cry and Memory-- He's going to put his whole heart and soul into these performances. So for one to say it's a disastre before he performs is like telling him that his heart and soul aren't good enough for you.
Spread the love,
No time to hate,
Vote Castro for idol '08!

My negativity is based on my not liking those songs in general - no matter who sings them. If anyone on this planet can make me warm to them, it's probably Jason. I'm trying really, really hard to suspend my inclination to wince in advance and remember that Jason's gotta do what he's gotta do, and if he's doing it, things will work out fine.

I think it's a fantastic choice! He needs to really do something that will wake everyone up. He has the ability to do something other than love songs and now is the time to do it. Who cares what the judges will think;do it for himself and his fans. Got my phones charging!

I love Jason, and will vote regardless, but neither song would have been my choice, especially ISTS. Since ISTS is not listed on the "rock and roll 500" songs list, I'm hoping for something, anything else, with a melody!

"I Shot the Sheriff" by the Wailers is on the list here:

Thanks . . . I had Clapton on the mind and didn't even think of the Wailers! Okay, back to thinking good thoughts about the sheriff.

Peace, Love and Castro to all. Spread the positive!

I might be a little older than most of you and more familiar with these songs. When I heard his selections, I was excited. I thought they were both perfect and solid choices. I can't wait to hear his take on these classics.

I was not a Jason fan at first, but now I am. I am old enough to be his grandmother, but he has won me over. My favorite song is Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I felt so bad last week about the way Paula treated him. When does she ever say anything really mean to the contestants? Usually she focuses on the positive, like "you need to work on this or that" or "you really look good", but saying Jason's song left her feeling empty before he even sang it made me mad. It wasn't anything like her usual critiques. I don't know if someone told her to say that, but it was way off-base. I hope Jason stuns them tonight and knocks it out of the ball park no matter what he sings.

Well, I along with some others, was about to drop my head onto the keyboard in despair when I read the possible choices, but I am trying to rally some positive vibes here. Anyway Jason sings I know I will personally love it, because it's Jason and I have loved his style, his voice and pretty much everything I have seen/heard about/from him since "Daydream." I know tonight I will have my phones out and ready to rock some votes. Praying all goes well. Everyone else get out there and vote and have others do so as well for our boy.
